When Crook Point opened in December 2024, right after the disaster that continues to be the Washington Bridge in Providence (look it up), I remember thinking: man, getting Rhode Islanders over to East Bay is already a challenge, I really hope they can make it.
I’m pleased to report that Crook Point seem to be doing very well, given the amount of people in the cozy taproom and the raucous party happening in one of their event spaces when I came to check out their wares.
What I tried: Brandy Blonde (5.5% ABV) was a fresh and light pour with a slight corn flavor. Named after Charles Looff, creator of the famous Carousel, Looff Hefeweizen (4.25 ABV%) hit the banana and clove yeast notes I expect from the style, less carbonation in the pour than I would like, but still very pleasant. I also appreciated Pour It Forward, their IPA (5.35%) that is a part of Ales for ALS, where one dollar from every pint goes to support ALS, but the pour I enjoyed the most was Squantum Lager (5.25% ABV) brewed with Pilsner, Munich, and Vienna malts, and hitting all the clean malty notes I want in a good lager.
I always love to see a space used for community use, so readers: I have to recommend checking out their TWO spaces for event rentals, the Riverside Room and Rumford Room, which are surprisingly spacious, lined with windows and full of beautiful wood details. Keep it in mind while making plans!
